The 60th Anniversary Celebration
Dinner was held on October 29, 2000 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition
Centre. Invited guests, court members, Faculty members, staff, and alumni
from various commercial sectors, government departments and tertiary institutions
joined this event to celebrate the end of the Jubilee Year. The Dinner
commenced with an opening remark by the Dean of Science, Dr F C Leung which
was followed by an address from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor W I R Davies.
Those who gathered for the evening were also delighted by some words of
reminiscence from Dr Rayson Huang, one of the two earliest graduates in
1942 and the former Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong (1972-1986).
Lord Oxburgh, Rector of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine,
UK, delivered the evening's speech, "The Future of Universities", which
covered the major challenges now facing universities. The Union Philharmonic
Orchestra of the Students' Union then performed for the guests, who were
later joined by the Dean of Science, Associate Deans and the former Deans
to sing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to the Faculty.
A commemorative volume of the 60th Anniversary detailing the historical developments and events of the Jubilee year has been produced. Any alumni interested in obtaining a copy of this historical publication, please contact the Faculty Office. Enquiries:
