Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting

An Extraordinary General Meeting ("EGM") of Convocation will be held on Saturday, 19 October 2019 at 9:30 am in Hui Pun Hing Lecture Theatre, The University of Hong Kong [MAP].

This EGM is convened, pursuant to paragraph 3 of the Rules of Convocation, at two written requests, each with 21 Members and were received by the Chairman of Convocation on 9 September 2019.

Members may attend the EGM in person or by proxy in accordance with the Constitution and Rules of Convocation and the Standing Orders made by the Chairman in respect of the EGM.


Order of Business

1. To confirm the Minutes of the last Ordinary General Meeting held on 21 June 2019 (document: Appendix A)


2. To discuss the following as set out in the requisition from Mr Mak Tung Wing (BA 1988) and 20 other members dated and received by the Chairman of Convocation on 9 September 2019:

"That the members of Convocation hold Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-Ngor responsible for having caused unforgivable havoc to Hong Kong by seeking to introduce the controversial extradition law and earnestly urge her to resign as the Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong."

Voting will start upon the commencement of General Discussion (see Standing Order 3b) and will close at 12:30 pm.


3. To discuss the following as set out in the revised requisition from Ms Chang Wan Ki Gloria (BSocSc 2001) and 20 other members dated and received by the Chairman of Convocation on 9 September 2019 and was further revised on 16 September 2019:

"That the members of Convocation strongly urge the university administration to adopt such measures for and render assistance to HKU students who have been physically and/or psychologically injured during the anti-extradition movement that can best ensure about their legal rights being adequately protected at trials and their injuries sustained from police brutality sufficiently redressed."

Voting will start upon the commencement of General Discussion (see Standing Order 3b) and will close at 12:30 pm.
