HKU's Internationalization: For whom and for what?

HKU's Internationalization: For whom and for what?
香港大學的國際化: 為誰而作? 為何而行?

Synopsis:
In the recent policy address, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive has announced a plan to double the intake of non-local undergraduates in the 2024-2025 academic year and the non-local student population will eventually increase from 3,000 to 6,000 in a year. The composition of the HKU student body is expected to experience a substantial and drastic change in the coming years. Especially when Mainland China is the dominant source of non-local students (59.6% of HKU non-local undergraduate in 2022-23), will HKU’s internationalization plan essentially a doubling-down Mainlandization? What has HKU planned to respond to this challenge? What do the students think about the possible impact? In this panel, Professor Ian Holliday, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), will address these challenging questions. Three student representatives, Local, International, and Mainland students respectively, will give their perspectives to respond and comment.
